Like several other companies, the story of Walthers began with a young boy playing with his first clockwork train.
Today Walthers both manufactures and imports electric trains and equipment. The family basis of this Milwaukee IL company is reflected in three generations of the family at the helm. It is also visible in the warnings to parents in "Choosing the Right Train Set," which stresses the right size trains for a child's age and the need for adult supervision.
Walthers manufactures Trainline-brand sets and the CornerStone line of cars. In addition, it stocks a wealth of American companies, including Atlas, Adair, Backman and others. Imports include German manufacturers Macklin and Darda, providing train experiences for hobbyists from very young children to adults. Walthers also produces a wide line of train publications and media, including its own books. All starting with a 7-year-old and his first fascinating train.
